Transition to kura/school from early childhood is a well-researched topic and kaiako are aware of the importance of developing a smooth transition between the two contexts. Rather than focusing on how this can be done, this professional development explores contexts to create a shared understanding of what is fundamentally important for children as they begin this transition.
This PLD event is aimed at early childhood and kura Kaiako who have children transitioning.
Learning Objectives:
- Kaiako develop a shared understanding of the learner as a holistic being whose identity, language, culture, and relationships shape their transition experience.
- Kaiako understand the central role of relationships (whanaungatanga) in supporting positive transition experiences.
- Kaiako explore how reciprocal, collaborative approaches across kura/school and ECE settings can support continuity of learning and wellbeing.
