Education Background

Tess has more than 20 years experiencing teaching as a Montessori kaiako in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. She was a tutor for 13 years at the Aperfield Montessori Trust, teaching Montessori Material workshops for students across the motu.

Research Background

Tess’s research towards her Master of Education thesis is focused on how peace education is applied in early childhood settings.

Teaching Interests

Tess is inspired by the work of Maria Montessori, not only as a method of teaching but as a philosophy based on a deep respect for all living beings, our environment and ourselves. One principle that underpins the Montessori philosophy is the idea that bringing harmony to the world is possible through the education of young children. This ideal inspires Tess’s teaching practice with tauira of Te Rito Maioha.
