In her current role as kaiako, Jen teaches in the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education).
Education Background
With over twenty five years of experience in Early Childhood Education, Jen has held a range of teaching and leadership roles. She remains committed to advocating for high quality learning environments where tamariki, whānau, and kaiako feel supported, valued, and able to thrive.
Research Background
Jen recently completed her Master of Education at Te Rito Maioha. Her thesis, Appreciative Inquiry in Action – Visiting Lecturers’ Perceptions of How Their Mentoring is Enhanced Through Appreciative Inquiry, was commended by examiners, who highlighted the clarity and coherence of the study. They praised its strong alignment with strengths based and relational principles and recognised its valuable contribution to mentoring within ECE ITE.
Teaching Interests
Jen’s teaching is guided by a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and strength based practice. She believes in the potential of every learner and works to create spaces where ākonga feel a sense of belonging and confidence to grow. Her focus is on fostering reflective, relational, and resilient practitioners who can draw on their strengths to support the learning and wellbeing of tamariki and whānau.
