Jade Whaanga

Pouako Te Papaioea

Te Papaioea | Palmerston North

Role

Jade’s role is Pouako for Te Papaioea Palmerston North. Jade provides invaluable knowledge supporting her team and students to see the world from a te ao Māori lens.

Education Background

He mokopuna tēnei nō te kaupapa o te Kōhanga reo. Ka tika, me whakahoki i te aroha ki te kaupapa nana ahau i whakatipu, nāna ahau i whakatō i te reo Māori.

Jade was involved with Kōhanga reo for 14 years, as a parent and a teacher, with a vision to raise children in an environment which promoted te ao Māori to live, breathe and succeed as Māori.

Research Background

E aroha ana ahau ki tō tātou reo Māori, tikanga Māori, ahuatanga, whakapono Māori. Koinei ngā kaupapa kua tāmokohia ki tōku ngākau.

Jade is passionate about her heritage and the revitalisation journey of te reo Māori within her whānau and future generations. “We stand on the shoulders of giants”, Jade wants to make sure when she stands, her children and descendants have the same solid foundation she has had in her life.

Teaching Interests

E whaiwhai haere ana i ngā tapuwae ā ō tātou mātua tipuna. Ko te whakarongo, ko te titiro, ko te ako. Ko tāku, ko te toha i ngā koha, ko te whakaatu i te aroha, ko te manaaki i ngā tauira.

Jade’s aspirations, goals and life philosophy are centred around growing, learning, and teaching. She sees herself as a small part of a larger collective of people wanting to learn alongside our future teachers.
