Together, we will explore how to effectively teach fundamental sports skills in ways that are developmentally appropriate, engaging, and grounded in quality early childhood practice.

This session will unpack what fundamental movement skills look like in the early years, while challenging common misconceptions about how young children learn through play and physical activity.

This PLD will support kaiako to intentionally plan, model, and scaffold learning experiences that promote coordination, balance, control, and confidence.

You will learn a range of simple, adaptable strategies to support skills such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching, with a focus on creating inclusive environments where all tamariki can participate and succeed. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with practical ideas, clear teaching strategies, and the confidence to integrate purposeful movement experiences into your everyday programme.

This PLD event is for Early Childhood kaiako.

Presenter - Craig Bowen - Managing Director of Kelly Sports (Bachelor of Excercise & Sport Science)

Kelly Sports New Zealand is a major provider of children’s sports coaching and school holiday programmes. Based in Manawatu, he and Keri Bowen took over ownership of the national franchise in June 2023, focusing on fostering a lifelong love of sports in children.
