Matariki Celebration - Ngā mihi o te tau hou Matariki - Christchurch

Matariki is time of reflection, whanaungatanga, celebration, and looking forward. We will be having a Matariki celebration to welcome in the Māori new year.

Christchurch - Thursday 9 July 2026 - 6-8pm

We warmly invite our Tauira, their whānau and our members to join our Ōtautahi teaching team to celebrate this time of reflection, whanaungatanga, celebration, and looking forward. We will be having a Matariki celebration to welcome in the Māori new year. There will be a special guest speaker (to be confirmed), and we will share soup and fry bread, and enjoy activities and games.

Whanaungatanga, tikanga, learning about Matariki and the significance to this area here in Ōtautahi.

There will be opportunities to connect with other kaiako and see how they are celebrating Matariki in their centres, also examples of how they can if they are unsure.

By the end of this tauira will hopefully gain a deeper understanding of Matariki and relevance in teaching.
