This professional learning development (PLD) aims to engage kaiako in dialogue that explores the characteristics and dispositions of ngā kaitiaki/atua Māori that can be identified within all tamariki.

This professional learning development (PLD) aims to engage kaiako in dialogue that explores the characteristics and dispositions of ngā kaitiaki/atua Māori that can be identified within all tamariki. With a credit-based lens, kaiako will discuss pedagogical strategies that enhances mana and promotes social and emotional competence.
This PLD is aimed at Qualified/unqualified ECE and Primary kaiako working in Tāmaki Makaurau
The goal of this PLD is to develop a beginning awareness of mātauranga Māori that supports kaiako to deepen their understanding and enhance their teaching practice.
The objective are to explore and unpack credit-based social and emotional strategies that support tamariki. With practical examples and shared ideas, this PLD aims to ensure kaiako can add to their kete of intentional strategies for teaching and learning.
Presenter Alicia Savage, Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). Pouako, Te Rito Maioha ECNZ
Alicia began her career in early childhood education 19 years ago. For the past five years, Alicia has been teaching Mātauranga Māori and early childhood contexts at Te Rito Maioha ki Manukau. Alicia is currently undertaking MEd with Massey University and is an advocate for agency and passionate about promoting teaching practices that honour the mana of every tamaiti. Central to her pedagogy are tikanga Māori values.
Facilitator: Jo Ward, Lecturer / Kaiako - Te Rito Maioha
Jo has worked in a range of settings for 30 years and has a passion for supporting social and emotional competence. Her knowledge and skills developed through working directly with a range of learners and alongside GSE in the implementation of strategies and plans to support tamariki. She has completed an inclusive education paper as part of her post graduate studies.
Presenter Samantha Kotlowski, Lecturer | Kaiako, Bachelor of Teaching & Learning. Postgraduate Diploma - Māori Medium Education. Te Rito Maioha ECNZ
Samantha has worked in English Medium primary schools and total immersion kura. Her postgraduate study was in Māori Medium studies. She is passionate about unpacking how cultural identity, language and academic success work and what matters in these environments.
