A key element of our work as kaiako is to use intentional teaching to support tamariki learning. Because teaching in ECE involves much more than just being present, and involves being intentional, this PLD will provide guidance and ideas about ways kaiako can engage in intentional teaching practices that support you to bring Te Whāriki to life every day. Being intentional in our planning for and responses to tamariki not only supports their learning but helps ensure we are meeting the promise of Te Whāriki and brings purpose to our mahi.
This workshop will provide the opportunity to revisit and explore what intentional teaching is and why it is an important element of our role as kaiako, alongside a strong focus on introducing and exploring a range of teaching strategies that can be used to support intentional teaching.
This PLD event is aimed at ECE kaiako, leaders and managers.
The learning outcomes are expected to be an opportunity to focus on a key aspect of kaiako practice, as noted in Te Whāriki, and to explore specific intentional teaching strategies that kaiako can use to support tamariki learning.
Presenter Dr Monica Cameron (PhD) (DipTching(ECE), BEd, EdD) has been involved in ECE for nearly 30 years as a student, teacher, PD facilitator and now in Initial Teacher Education. Her research interests focus on assessment, planning and curriculum, intentional teaching and pedagogy, evaluation and leadership.
