FISH! Philosophy for Kaiako - Creating Engaged, Joyful and Relationship-Rich Learning Communities - Te Waihanga Hapori Ako Whai Hononga, Whai Harikoa

This workshop is based on the FISH! Philosophy created by Stephen Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen and the story of the world-famous Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. This workplace environment exemplified the concept of having a more playful work environment; employees will be more productive and engaged.

This engaging workshop will discover the four FISH! principles.

• Explore their connection to Te Whāriki and effective teaching practice.
• Reflect on our own professional practice.
• Share ideas and strategies with colleagues.
• Commit to actions that strengthen learning communities.

Outcome - every participant leaves with practical and fun strategies and a personal action plan to make a positive difference in their setting.

This PLD event is suitable for early years kaiako and leaders.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

• Explore how the principles strengthen relationships with tamariki, whānau, and colleagues.
• Connect FISH! Philosophy to Te Whāriki and effective teaching practice.
• Reflect on their own attitudes, wellbeing, and professional interactions.
• Develop practical strategies to create positive and engaging learning environments.
• Create a personal action plan to implement FISH! principles in their setting.

Jo is the Regional Education Leader for the Dunedin, Otago and Southland region, Jo leads the teaching staff in Ōtepoti. Jo believes children’s social and emotional wellbeing is at the heart of their learning, fostered by a happy, safe environment and strong trusting relationships with families, staff, children, and wider community. Jo loves to lead, grow and support collaborative teams, and believes teachers need to feel valued and trusted by leaders who encourage growth and reflective practices. This workshop is about creating engaged, joyful kaiako and teams.
