This PLD will be focused on Pasifika kaiako affirming who they are, their identity and culture. Two sessions will provide ways of recognising what they already do and celebrating that and then extending this through what they could integrate.
The sessions are:
- Our sea of Islands – your place and identity as a Pasifika kaiako in Aotearoa
- Honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi – how do we see this in our daily practices as Pasifika kaiako
The target audience will be Pasifika kaiako from Early childhood Education, Primary teachers, students studying at Te Rito Maioha (both qualified and unqualified kaiako)
The learning goals and objectives for this PLD event are:
- Strengthen cultural understanding and identity
- Tangible application of culturally responsive pedagogies
- Exploration of how Pasifika kaiako integrate Te Titiri o Waitangi and Te Whāriki
- Upskilling of your own personal and professional practice as a Kaiako

I am the Lead Advisor Pasifika for Te Rito Maioha. I have been working in the tertiary sector for over a decade and passionate about Pasifika fanau success. My research interests include Samoan/Pasifika Indigenous Knowledges, methodologies and Pasifika success in higher education. I am an aluma of the University of Auckland.

Born and breed in Otara and Mangere then made the decision to move out West where I stay now. I am currently teaching in our Bachelor of Teaching ECE, Postgraduate Leadership programmes as well as being a supervisor in the Masters programme.
