Attracting and retaining diverse kaiako in ECE
In this webinar research findings and recommendations will be shared from a project to better understand barriers and facilitators of inclusion for diverse kaiako in their ECE workplaces.
This PLD is aimed at ECE teachers, student teachers, leaders, managers, employers and adademics as well as ECE tertiary qualification providers and MoE policy advisors.
This PLD will enable participants to learn more about:
- key issues for diverse ECE kaiako in the workplace
- how to advocate for change by addressing the barriers and challenges that limit diversity, recruitment and retention of diverse kaiako.
- the importance of inclusive workplace environments and cultures.
- how to address discrimination and stigma in the workplace.

Fleur Hohaia-Rollinson, Senior Lecturer | Pūkenga Matua, Te Rito Maioha
Fleur Hohaia-Rollinson has been in the ECE sector for over twenty years, working as an ECE kaiako and lecturer. Fleur has a Master of Education and is engaged in collaborative research investigating barriers and facilitators of inclusion for diverse kaiako and more recently student kaiako/kaiako with disabilities. Fleur’s areas of expertise and interests focus on inclusion, equity, diversity, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and teacher practice.
