Can I be a leader? What kind of leader can I be? Aspiring leadership through identity, positioning, values and vision - Puāwai: Ngā Kaiārahi mō āpōpō

This professional learning workshop is designed for aspiring and emerging leaders who are looking to deepen their understanding of themselves as leaders and explore the impact they can have within their teams, organisations, and communities. Through reflection, discussion, and practical activities, participants will explore their leadership identity, values, positioning, and vision for the future.

Grounded in Ngā Mātāpono o Kahungunu, this wānanga provides an opportunity to reflect on what authentic leadership looks like through a local and culturally responsive lens. Participants will leave with greater clarity about who they are as leaders, what guides their decision-making, and how they can lead with purpose, confidence, and integrity in service of others.

This workshop is suitable for beginning teachers. those kaiako aspiring to positional leadership in the future, or those wanting to enact aspects of leadership within their teaching role.

The learning goals and objectives of this PLD is:

• Deepening awareness of self and the values and capabilities they hold that will help them to lead
• A deepening understanding of differing pathways to leadership
• Increased ability to identify leadership opportunities within their everyday practice
• Knowledge of Ngā Mātāpono o Kahungunu and understanding of how to enact culturally responsive, authentic and contextually based leadership
• The ability to espouse the vision they hold as an aspiring leader that will guide their future practice.

Presenter: Rhandell Tangaere

Pouako, Te Rito Maioha

Rhandell Tangaere is a Pouako at Te Rito Maioha Heretaunga and has been in education for 16years. Her experiences include being raised in Te Kōhanga Reo and Kura Reo Rua, a māmā of four tamariki, Kindergarten kaiako, Curriculum Advisor (Early Learning) at the Ministry of Education. She is passionate about empowering kaiako and future leaders to recognise their strengths, embrace their identity and make a positive difference for tamariki, whānau, and their hāpori.

Presenter: Gaylyn Campbell

Gaylyn has a Master of Education and has been an educator for 30+ years. Her experiences include working as a Kindergarten Teacher, Head Teacher and Senior Teacher, a Senior Tutor at Massey University, Curriculum Advisor (Early Learning) at the Ministry of Education and most recently as Education Manager at the Napier Kindergarten Association. She is driven by the desire to support all kaiako to provide the very best for the mokopuna within their places of learning.
