Once you have purchased this course, it will appear in your Learning Centre Te Pūtahi ako.

This course has been designed for those who are new to the Montessori classroom—whether you have recently begun working in a Montessori environment or are considering doing so in the future. If you’re curious about how Montessori materials are used to support children’s learning, then this course is for you.

In this introductory course, we explore the foundations of presenting Montessori materials. We begin by looking at the prepared environment, examine key elements of the Montessori 3–6 curriculum, and explore the characteristics of Montessori materials. We then look at the special aspects of a presentation and introduce the Three Period Lesson, which is central to how materials are presented to children.

This self-paced course includes videos and interactive activities and should take 1 hour to complete.

Learning goals: By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Describe some of the key features of the Montessori Prepared Environment.
  • Identify the main areas of the Montessori 3-6 curriculum.
  • Gain an overview of key principles that guide the design and use of Montessori materials.
  • Outline the steps involved in presenting a piece of material and the parts of the Three Period Lesson.
