Judy Kaa Scholarship

The Judy Kaa scholarship is awarded once a year to a student who has been accepted into our Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE).
The awarded applicant will have all their first year’s tuition fees for the programme covered.

Background
This award is a memorial to Judy Kaa, National President of Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand from 2008 to 2015, an inspiring early childhood teacher and leader. Owner of the highly regarded Kerikeri centre, Nurture by Nature, Judy was a student in the postgraduate leadership programme and completed the Certificate in Leadership (ECE). As tireless leader in her community, Judy believed in the potential of all people to learn and to lead. He wahine pūmau ki te kaupapa.
Selection Process
The Scholarship is open to all domestic students selected for entry to our Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) programme who commenced study in July 2024, or who will commence study in February 2024.
Applicants will be shortlisted by a panel comprising the Director of Teaching, Learning and Research, a Council member nominated by the National President and the Pouhere Kaupapa Māori.
The final decision will be made by the Chief Executive.
Application Process
Applicants are required to complete a scholarship application form and attach the following supporting documents:

A completed and signed application form.

A letter of application to the Director of Teaching, Learning and Research stating what they hope to achieve for their community by undertaking this programme of postgraduate study in early childhood education leadership.

A brief curriculum vitae (CV).

Two (2) references from members of the local community.

Terms and Conditions

The award recipient is expected to write a brief report (up to 1,000 words) outlining the impact of this study programme on their leadership and the benefits to their community.
This report will be submitted to the Chief Executive by 25 February of the year following the award. -
The recipient is required to successfully complete the papers enrolled in.
Withdrawal or failure to complete the papers will require repayment of the funding award.
