Role

Marlena is a Lecturer for our ECE tauira. She believes an important role of all kaiako are as nurturers and agents of change.


Education Background

Marlena is a graduate of Te Rito Maioha. Marlena feels privileged to be in a position to give back to the institution where she started her journey in teaching. She has served in early childhood education for over 10 years, as a kaiako and as a leader.


Research Background

Marlena is currently undertaking an applied masters in Māori and Indigenous Leadership with a focus on rangatiratanga Māori and what this looks like in ECE.


Teaching Interests

Marlena is passionate about language, culture, identity, and Māori succeeding as Māori in education and life. She loves being in te taiao, mahi toi, and te ao Māori and weave this into her mahi and life.
