Strengthening Connections with Arellano University

07 April 2026

Recently, Kathy Wolfe, Graeme Severinsen and Dr Rosina Merry travelled to the Philippines to connect with our valued partners at Arellano University in Manila.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of Agreement (MOA) centred on the development of an innovative two-plus-two degree programme. This pathway will enable students to begin their studies in the Philippines and complete them in Aotearoa New Zealand, creating a seamless and supported transition into our learning environment.

While in Manila, Kathy, Rosina and Graeme met with students, faculty deans, and academic leaders across a range of disciplines. During these conversations they explored the opportunities for students from Arellano University to come to New Zealand to study the Graduate Diploma ECE or the Graduate Diploma Primary.

The visit also extended exciting discussions in the research space, particularly around the evolving role of GenAi in teaching and learning. These shared areas of interest provide a strong foundation for ongoing collaboration and innovation between our institutions.

Importantly, this visit further deepened our relationship with our colleagues at Arellano University. It created meaningful pathways not only for Filipino students to study in Aotearoa, but also for our staff to share their expertise internationally.

The trip was successful, grounded in partnership, guided by shared values, and focused on expanding possibilities for our global learning community.
