Student Fee Protection

Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand (ECNZ) operates a static trust as our mechanism for the protection of student fees. The Trustee of this Trust is Baker Tilly Staples Rodway, located in Wellington. This arrangement has been accepted by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as meeting the requirements of the Education and Training Act 2020 and the Student Fee Protection Rules 2021.

The Student Fee Protection Mechanism protects student fees and is triggered if ECNZ undergoes a “Course Closure Event”. A course closure event is where ECNZ is not able to deliver the programme of study for which the student has made payment. Should this occur, ECNZ will publish contact details of the Trustee on our website and provide additional information on your entitlements, documentation requirements to obtain a refund and detail of any meetings arranged for students to attend.

Government Fees Free initiative

If you’re planning to start tertiary study or training for the first time you may be eligible for fees-free.

If you’re a New Zealander or are ordinarily resident in New Zealand and were at school in 2017, 2018 or 2019 (other than as an adult student), you may qualify for the equivalent of one year's fees-free provider-based study or two years’ industry training.

If you’re not a recent school leaver, and you’ve done less than half a year of tertiary study or training (whether in New Zealand or in any other country), you may also qualify.
