Te Rito Maioha Early
Childhood New Zealand has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of
Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
Copies of the Code and the pamphlet Important Information about the Code, translated into many languages, are available from the NZQA website.
Te Rito Maioha is a proud signatory to the code.
Below you can find several links which can help you adjust to your life of study in New Zealand:
Immigration
Full details of immigration requirements, advice on rights to
employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are
available from Immigration New Zealand, and can be viewed on their
website at www.immigration.govt.nz
Eligibility for health services
Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded
health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment
during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs of that
treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly funded health
services are available through the Ministry of Health, and can be viewed
on their website at www.moh.govt.nz
Accident insurance
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance
for all New Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary visitors to New
Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related
costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz
Medical and travel insurance
To enrol with Te Rito Maioha, international students (including group students) need medical and travel insurance. In line with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners Code of Practice, insurance must cover:
• All travel to and from New Zealand, and within New Zealand
• Medical care in New Zealand, including diagnosis, prescription, surgery, and hospitalisation
• Repatriation or expatriation as a result of serious illness, injury or death, including cover of travel costs for family members, and funeral costs.
Students may organise their own insurance or purchase approved insurance through Te Rito Maioha, provided by Southern Cross. To purchase Southern Cross insurance, contact Student Services on [email protected].
International Student Contract Dispute Resolution Scheme (DRS)
The purpose of the DRS is to adjudicate on financial and
contractual complaints from international students. If the DRS is not
the appropriate agency to deal with the breach the student may be
referred to another agency or be advised of an alternative next step.
International students are advised to work through the complaints
process with their provider prior to contacting the DRS
iStudentComplaint.
