Learn te reo Māori

Begin your te reo Māori journey with Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand’s Akohia te reo Māori PLD programme.

Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu – However small it may seem it is a treasure.

Te Rito Maioha has developed a series of workshops and online resources to help you gain a basic understanding of te reo Māori.  You will be taught methods and techniques to help improve your pronunciation of te reo.

You will learn how to introduce yourself with a basic mihimihi (greeting) and lead and close meetings with traditional karakia (prayer).  You will also be taught waiata (song) and phrases for practical use with tamariki (children) in your centre.

This PLD programme includes three face-to-face workshops, where you will gain knowledge from our pouako (tutors), and have access to an online resource designed to reinforce your learning from the workshops.

You will also get to meet other ECE professionals who are also beginning their te reo Māori journey in your region.

By the end of the PLD programme, you will be confident in using simple te reo Māori with tamariki and colleagues.

The workshops are run between 9.30am to 12.30pm at the following locations and dates:

  • Manukau - 7 March
