Grow your capability and confidence in using and integrating te reo Māori into the learning of all ākonga in this free 20-week programme.

What is Te Ahu o te Reo Māori?

Te Ahu o te Reo Māori means the future pathway of te reo Māori – a pathway that seeks to inspire improved te reo Māori proficiency, acquisition and use across the education sector. It also provides opportunities for te reo Māori to be normalised, and Māori identity and culture to be shared and embraced.

The initiative aims to support early learning to secondary school leaders, kaiako and support staff to grow their capability and confidence in using and integrating te reo Māori into the learning of all ākonga. Participants will have the opportunity to engage and understand a different worldview; engage in cultural practices, narratives, and histories relevant to Aotearoa and to the system that supports the education of all students.

Te Ataarangi

Te Rito Maioha have partnered with Te Ataarangi to deliver this programme.

The Te Ataarangi way of learning is not a rigid, 'one-size-fits-all' workbook-based programme; instead it is dynamic, flexible and can be tailored to both the requirements of your organisation and individual needs of your staff. We rely on the experience and talents of our tutors to work with your organisation to find the best fit.

Most organisations don't expect their staff to become fluent speakers of reo Māori with a few lessons. Generally, they want their staff to become comfortable with pronunciation and simple expressions, and to have an understanding of Māori culture.

Te Ataarangi has been supporting learners to develop confidence with listening to, and speaking Māori for over 30 years. All of our tutors want to instill both a love of reo Māori and a genuine understanding and respect of our culture and customs with their students.

He Pataka Reo

In addition to the kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face) classes, participants will have access to He Pataka Reo – an online learning tool to support further development of te reo Māori.

He Pātaka Reo is an online professional learning and development course designed to encourage and help kaiako build confidence in speaking te reo Māori in a natural and spontaneous way each day.
