This workshop is suitable for beginning teachers and long-standing teachers in the ECE sector who would like to refresh their knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in modern day society.

The PLD will offer a rationale for both the historical and legislative standing of Te Tiriti o Watangi including:

  • Examples of what governs practice within the early childhood education sector.
  • Questions for reflection and consideration.
  • A break down of the four articles and how these can be successfully implemented and reflected within the ECE curriculum.

In the current political climate, there is a need for Kaiako to enhance their current knowledge and obligations as Tiriti-based Kaiako working within a bicultural curriculum framework.  This PLD aims to support and enhance Kaiako knowledge on Te Tiriti o Waitangi and their on-going engagement and obligations to uphold our founding document through every-day pedagogies.

Aria Macredie, Lecturer | Kaiako, Te Rito Maioha
My teaching journey in early childhood education began in 2017 when I  pursued my passion to study a Bachelor of Teaching ECE through Te Rito Maioha. During this experience I gained valuable knowledge about implementing localised knowledge, tikanga and customs within the early learning environment to enhance learning outcomes for all tamariki.  I was born and raised in Rotorua and reside here with my beautiful tamariki. I am passionate about Kaupapa Māori and ensuring that kaiako are supported to form a knowledge base of their on-going obligations and engagement with Te Tiriti o Waitangi in ECE.
