About Membership

Ngā kaupapa mema

Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand is a leading provider of new knowledge, fresh thinking and best practice for early childhood education (ECE).

Our membership organisation was formed in 1963 as the New Zealand Association of Child Care Centres by prominent women's rights activist, politician and peace campaigner, Sonja Davies. We were also previously known as Te Tari Puna o Aotearoa New Zealand Childcare Association.

For more than 55 years we have represented early childhood education services and the teachers who provide education and care to thousands of infants, toddlers and young children. Our members are drawn from a diverse range of community-based and privately-owned ECE services, individuals, teachers, students and organisations with an interest in the ECE sector. Together we are actively seeking to ensure our tamariki have the best beginning to their life-long learning journey.
