TeachNZ
scholarships support students on their journey towards being a great
teacher or kaiako, by covering the cost of their course fees and paying
them an allowance throughout the duration of their study.
The programme is inclusive and rewards
outstanding applicants. Outstanding to TeachNZ goes beyond academic
achievement. The programme recognises passion, leadership, good
communication, lived experiences and also places value on Māori and
Pacific cultural competencies and language skills.
2021 Programme Opening Again Soon
The 2021 TeachNZ Scholarship programme will open to applications again on 25th November 2020. This application round will close on 9th December 2020. The programme will reopen for a further application round from 22nd March 2021 - 21st April 2021.
The programme is available for any
student planning to enrol, or already enrolled on an approved Initial
Teacher Education course. The 2021 approved teaching qualifications have
been determined by the Teaching Council. A full list of the approved
courses on the 2021 Guide, available on our website.
It is open to graduates and undergraduates. There are school leaver and more substantial ‘career changer’ options available. The scholarships are available to students in any year of their study.
Although the programme is available to
a student studying any subject or sector, it continues to be weighted
towards areas facing teacher supply pressures; subjects such as Science,
Technology, Maths and te reo Māori and immersion settings.
Applicants can apply for as many different scholarships as they wish, but only accept one.
To apply for a scholarship, students must complete an online application form, which will be made available on the TeachNZ website.
