This Level 8 qualification is suitable for professionals with a particular interest in infant and toddler wellbeing, learning and development who want to specialise in this area.

The programme emphasises the importance of responsive relationships and dialogue in supporting positive outcomes for infants, toddlers and their families.

Contemporary theory and research from related fields will extend and deepen your knowledge of the first thousand days of a child's life.

Students who graduate with the Postgraduate Diploma in Infants and Toddlers are eligible to staircase into a Level 9 master’s degree, with the four courses contributing to the first part of a master’s degree.

The programme comprises four 30-credit courses, each 18 weeks long, which can be completed over 1 year of full-time study or 2 years of part-time study.

For part-time study, students need to set aside 17 hours a week for directed and independent study, including online engagement. For full-time study, students need to set aside 34 hours a week.

There is no work-based component.

To be eligible to apply for this programme, students must hold either a relevant NZQA-equivalent Level 7 teaching diploma, or a degree in education or related fields. Students must be able to provide a copy of their academic transcript.
