Why study a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) with Te Rito Maioha?

Te Rito Maioha’s Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) is designed to help ECE teachers step into leadership and management roles. We spoke with three current students (Alida Tooby, Anya Ferns and Shelley Brunton) to get their thoughts on the programme and studying with Te Rito Maioha.

‘It’s been good to learn about things that you don’t naturally know about when going into a leadership role,’ says Alida. ‘Managing adults is very different and was not something I was prepared for when I went into my management position.’

Shelley and Anya agree, with Shelley saying, ‘It’s very different. We trained to be teachers but when we become managers, we are expected to know how. The lecturers at Te Rito Maioha are really knowledgeable and I’ve learned so much from this programme’.

Anya says there is a great relationship between students and Te Rito Maioha lecturers. ‘I maintained contact with the lecturers after completing my leadership certificate a few years ago. I have returned to complete the diploma now, due to it being mostly online.’

‘Online study fits in with any lifestyle,’ says Shelley. Anya agrees, saying, ‘I enjoy the flexibility of the course.  With the content being online you can work while studying although you can feel a bit isolated studying online sometimes’.

Shelley says the block courses help and are worthwhile attending. ‘They give you the ability to connect with other students.’ ‘Yes,’ says Anya, ‘and there aren’t too many block courses to get in the way of work either.

‘The courses also give you the ability to create friendships with others whom you wouldn’t otherwise get to meet’.
