Te Rito Maioha is proud to provide a range of qualifications from our Regional Education Centre (REC) for those wishing to study early childhood education courses in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton. Graduate Diploma of Teaching in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
For those who already have an undergraduate qualification, it can take just one year to become qualified to be a kaiako. No matter which field your degree is in, you can take this Graduate Diploma of Teaching to become a kaiako in Aotearoa|New Zealand. If you have taught overseas but are not eligible to teach in Aotearoa|New Zealand, you may also take this programme to qualify to be a teacher here.

With a mix of online learning, in-person block programmes, and hands-on experience, this course is flexible to fit in with your lifestyle. Learn mostly from home and find an ECE provider close to you where you can gain practical local experience.

Diploma in Early Childhood Education in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
For individuals who wish to study towards an undergraduate diploma, we have three distinct
options:

  • NZ Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Pasifika)
  • NZ Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Aperfield Montessori)
  • NZ Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Home-based Care)

These diplomas may be studied by those working in childcare, qualified teachers, and even teachers who are currently unqualified. Each diploma focuses on a unique teaching discipline to broaden your knowledge of the relevant teaching methodologies. Each of the three diplomas includes both online study in addition to field-based learning so that you can learn and then put your new skills into practice. With the Montessori and Pasifika options, you also undertake some in-person learning during the block courses.

Teacher Education Refresher (TER) Courses in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
If you have left it more than five years to gain your full practising certificate after completing a teacher education programme, then you will be required to take a Teacher Education Refresher course which involves a 4 week practicum at an ECE service. Whether you have taken a long break from ECE or never attained your certificate, you can take our TER course to refresh your knowledge and gain your certification.

If you are currently in full-time or fixed-term teaching positions (minimum 30 hours per week) for 12 months at the time of enrolment you will be offered a fast-track option which involves a practicum visit.

It is also suited to internationally qualified ECE teachers who wish to become more familiar with concepts relevant to the learning environment in Aotearoa|New Zealand.

ECE Degrees in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
Our Regional Education Centre in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton offers ECE degrees for those wishing tobroaden their knowledge base and improve their practices in the classroom.

Bachelor of Education (ECE) in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
Study a Bachelor of Education to obtain a degree in education. This qualification is suited to individuals who want to focus on the concepts underpinning modern early childhood education.

Complete this degree to increase the knowledge required in a variety of roles, including policy analyst, ECE centre manager, and child advocate. This course is not designed for those who wish to qualify as a kaiako, instead teaching educational concepts to those working with children|tamariki outside of an academic environment. Upon completion of this qualification, you will have gained a deeper understanding of early childhood education theory, cultural identity and responsiveness, social identity, and human development.

Studying the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (ECE) after finishing this qualification can enable you to become a kaiako.

Bachelor of Teaching in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
We are proud to offer two degree options for the Bachelor of Teaching:

  • Bachelor of Teaching (ECE)
  • Bachelor of Teaching (Primary)

Choose to learn about teaching primary-age children|tamariki or work towards becoming a primary or ECE teacher. Both programmes involve field-based learning, where Yyou will undertake weekly placements, which offers the chance to work directly with children and apply the teaching techniques you have learnt. Both courses also feature a blended learning approach, with most of the study completed online. You will also attend face-to-face block courses to learn with your cohort in person. These programmes are ideally suited to those wanting to study primary or ECE teaching in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton.

ECE Diploma to Degree Upgrade Programme
Te Rito Maioha now offers the Diploma to Degree Upgrade Programme, which allows students with a diploma in ECE teaching to attain a Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) degree. This course is studied part- time, enabling you to continue working, while undertaking studie online to improve your knowledge and skills so that you can qualify as a kaiako.

Postgraduate ECE in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton
We have many students who return to us after obtaining a degree in ECE education to undertake further study. That is why we offer a broad range of postgraduate courses, each with a specific focus on target areas of development. These can count towards a Master of Education if you choose to continue studying after you have completed your postgraduate qualification.

  • Postgraduate Diploma: Infant and Toddler Learning and Development – This diploma is a research-based programme aimed at those who would like to specialise in teaching children|tamariki under three.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) – This postgraduate diploma can help you to improve your leadership skills if you are in a leadership position in an ECE context, or wish to attain this type of role. It focuses on leadership practices in a work based ECE setting and comprises face- to-face and online learning.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership (ECE) Trans-Tasman Initiative – We created this programme to allow New Zealand and Australian ECE leaders to learn from each other’s unique but related ECE environments.
  • Master of Education (ECE) – Our Master of Education in Kirikiriroa|Hamilton is studied entirely online, allowing students to learn from home. This qualification aims to improve your understanding of biculturalism, inclusive education, infant and toddler pedagogy, and ECE leadership.
