What is He Pātaka Reo?
He Pātaka Reo is a 3-stage online professional learning and development course specifically designed for ECE teachers.
Practise on your own schedule and build confidence in speaking te reo Māori in a natural and spontaneous way and integrate te reo Māori into your day-to-day practice confidently.
He Pātaka Reo - Stage 1
He Pātaka Reo – Stage 1 contains six courses and typically takes 4-5 hours to complete:
- Introduction | Mihimihi
- The Māori Alphabet | Te Arapū Māori
- Greetings & Farewells | Ngā mihi mai, me ngā mihi atu
- Praising Others | Ngā kōrero ki te whakanui tāngata
- Personal Pronouns | Ngā Tūpou
- Seasons, Months & Days | Ngā wāhanga o te tau
At the end of each course you will have the option to record your progress by using the audio diary function and learn a new:
- Karakia
- Waiata
- Whakataukī
Once you complete Stage 1 and want to continue with stage 2 & 3, you can either purchase the remaining stages or join Te Rito Maioha as a member (starting from $35 annually) to access He Pātaka Reo for free!

This pukapuka is designed to be personalised to your own te reo learning journey. Add new vocabulary and whakataukī learnt and keep track of all your notes by creating your own table of contents.
